STEM is an acronym for science, technology, ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, and mathematics. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives.  Engineering draws on all of the STEM fields and applies them to solve problems and to create innovative devices, structures, and applications. Mathematics is in every activity we do in our lives. Many of the biggest problems facing the world require engineering expertise to solve like energy independence, access to clean water, climate change etc. Today, employers are seeking employees with engineering knowledge and related skills. These skills include the ability to creatively and systematically solve ill-defined problems, collaboratively work in teams, effectively communicate, and address ethical considerations.

STEM is being used in electrical engineering firms to generate revolutionary technologies such as automobiles, bulbs and machines. Today, many countries are heading towards innovation by emphasizing the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Engineering practices involve mathematics, science, and technology, integrating all four STEM disciplines. Engineering education plays a crucial role in solving real-life problems. The process of teaching and learning in Electrical Engineering topics consists of two parts, which are theoretical and practical.

Electrical Engineering is a broad field that deals with the technology of electricity. Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment. Some of this equipment includes electric motors, automobiles, aircraft, radar and navigation systems, and transmission devices used by electric utilities. Electrical engineers specialize in areas such as power systems engineering, semiconductors, nanoelectronics, computer engineering, communication, and signal processing, etc.

STEM Education and Electrical Engineering

STEM is Electrical Engineering!

  1. Electricity is Science. The atom is the science behind electricity and how it works. Electricity is energy in constant motion. When designed and installed correctly it can perform amazing things for us. When it is incorrectly used, it can be extremely dangerous.
  2. Electrical Engineering is the largest branch of Engineering Technology. Electrical Engineers are the bridge between consumers and amazing new products that can improve the quality, convenience, and safety of their lives. Today, Electrical Engineers are working to achieve a sustainable future by installing electric vehicle charging stations, solar panels to provide usable power, and so much more.
  3. Electrical Engineers are Engineering Expert. Electrical Engineers design and build systems that solve problems and can achieve practical goals. Electrical Engineers are tasked with turning a design into a finished, practical, and safe product, which has to meet engineered specifications.
  4. Electrical Engineers use Mathematics daily to calculate what an electrical system needs. The relationship between voltage, current, resistance, and power is broken down into simple mathematical formulas that can be applied to almost any situation.

Therefore, today, the world needs to emphasize the “E” in STEM Education. Developing more engineers with engineering competencies is important to the future of the world. The world needs engineers with an understanding of engineering in a wide variety of jobs like government, law, medicine, and more, which will help in the smooth functioning of the world’s economy, as more and more personal and public decisions will require engineering knowledge.
