INTRODUCTION
My name is Mehran Ahmed, I am currently in third year studying petroleum engineering from NED university of engineering and science. I enjoy being creative and seeing the world through new eyes. I love writing and express my thoughts through writing.
WHAT IS STEM EDUCATION?
STEM education and learning extends beyond the simple transfer of knowledge. It engages students and provides them with critical thinking, problem solving, creative, and collaborative skills, ultimately connecting the school, workplace, community, and global economy.
STEM is intended to create a program that integrates all four disciplines in such a way that students are forced to solve problems using cross-disciplinary knowledge. This essentially means that the traditional learning style that incoming freshmen are used to, which is typically some form of memorization and recitation of information, is out the window.
IMPORTANCE
STEM education teaches children more than just science and math concepts.
The emphasis on hands-on learning with real-world applications aids in the development of a wide range of skill sets, including creativity and to this new century
Media and technology literacy, productivity, social skills, communication, flexibility, and initiative are all new generation skills taught through STEM education.
STEM education also teaches problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, decision making, leadership, entrepreneurship, failure acceptance, and other skills.
Regardless of future career path, these skill sets will help you prepare to be innovative.
My degree
The degree that I am currently persuading is bachelors in petroleum and gas engineering. Petroleum engineering is basically study of hydrocarbons (HC). It is study of extracting oil and gas from the depth of earth. The study in petroleum engineering provides a broad exposure to students related to the earth.
The course content features animals, plants, extraction of oil and conversion of fossils throughout the time.
Relevance with other fields:
Petroleum and gas engineering is corelated with petroleum geology, geophysics,
Formation evaluation, drilling, economics.
petroleum geology
Petroleum geology is the study of origin, occurrence, movement, accumulation, and exploration of hydrocarbon fuels. It refers to the specific set of geological disciplines that are applied to the search for hydrocarbons
Geophysics
Geophysics is the study of the physics of the Earth and its environment in space. Subdisciplines include seismology, the study of seismic waves; geomagnetism, the study of the magnetic field; and geodesy, the study of the gravitational field and the shape of the Earth’s surface.
Formation evaluation
Formation evaluation is the analysis of subsurface formation characteristics, such as lithology, porosity, permeability, and saturation by methods such as wireline well logging and core analysis.
Drilling
Designing wells in support of a field development. Preparing cost estimates and assessing risk. Reporting and optimizing operations. Applying technology and innovation in directional drilling, mud systems, casing and drill string design, and completions.
Economics
Economics is the study of scarcity and its implications for the use of resources, production of goods and services, growth of production and welfare over time, and a great variety of other complex issues of vital concern to society.
